Sunday Psalm 48:1-3

February was African American History Month and my students and I discussed the methods that the slaves used to find their way north to freedom. One way was to feel for moss on tree trunks. It always grew heavier on the north side.

When I saw the moss on the north side of this tree trunk I thought of that and the following verses came to mind, because the moss helped lead slaves to their place of refuge, their Mount Zion.

Psalm 48: 1-3

1Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

2Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.  3God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
